About the Artist

 Andy Smith

Andy Smith now lives in Newton, New Jersey,in the Paulinskill River Watershed after living in the Darby Creek Watershed in the town of Devon, Pennsylvania for 32 years.   After completing a 35 year career as a campus minister and then, Director of Social Responsibility in Investments for the American Baptist Churches USA, he has consulted with corporations on building a sustainable society and taught  ethics and philosophy at Neumann College.   Andy taught ethics and sustainability part time in the graduate program at Penn State Great Valley for ten years until 2018. His formal education includes an AB in history from Duke University, an STB from Harvard University and a PHD in Religion and Society from Drew University.

Andy has had a passion for photography for many years, developing a large portfolio of slides from around the world during his travels for the church.  In the last several years his interest in bringing people in touch with the natural world has led to a focus on nature photography, with a particular emphasis on birds.  

His award-winning photography has been exhibited at Neumann College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Drew University, Central Baptist Church in Wayne Pennsylvania, the Ocean City Arts Center in New Jersey, the Palmyra Cove Nature Center in New Jersey, the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, at Penn State Great Valley, and at various other locations.  Images are presently available for sale at galleries in New Jersey and Maine and on this web site. Andy also regularly has a booth at numerous art and craft shows in the Mid-Atlantic region.  See Exhibits for a current schedule and history.

Andy is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. He regularly serves as a judge for local camera clubs like the Upper Merion Camera Club and the Delaware County Camera Club. He has also judged the annual members and visitors photography show at Jenkins Arboretum.
